Hilary is a young professional based in Brussels. Having worked for over ten years as an English as a Second Language Teacher across three continents, she specialises in written and spoken communication in multilingual environments.
Currently, she works as a civil servant in the European Parliament in the Legislative Affairs Unit. She has also previously worked in and around the European Union institutions on a wide range of policies areas from international trade to public health to legal affairs. Much of her time in these roles was dedicated to developing English language communication materials that explained EU policy in a simple and clear manner.
In her free time she pursues her passion for public speaking. She has been a member of Toastmasters since 2006. During this time she has won numerous speech contests in English and in French, mentored other speakers and has served as President of her club. In November 2017, she was awarded the Distinguished Toastmaster award, the highest educational award in Toastmasters for her communication and leadership skills.
She is also passionate about cooking, jazz music, and language learning. In her free time she loves indulging in chocolate, reading The Economist, and walking around in bare feet.
